Well Street Common Festival 2025
As you may have heard, this year, the Well Street Common Festival is taking a break.
The most important thing to say is that we’ll be back in full force next year.
The festival has grown massively particularly over the last few years thanks to all the volunteers, stall holders, musicians, and everyone who comes and supports in their hundreds. We’re so grateful to everyone who gets involved to make it the brilliant day it is.
Last year, we estimated 1,500 people attended!
Logistically this is quite a feat for the small band of volunteer organisers who work behind the scenes throughout the year to make the day amazing and sometimes it can be a teeny bit overwhelming.
While we’re on a break this year we’re planning how best to resource and organise the running of future festivals so that events to come are as brilliant as the last two decades.
The festival is entirely organised and run by volunteers. We need more people who can commit to helping throughout the year to make sure the festival runs smoothly.
We’re particularly looking for a joint Festival Director to help run it with the current Festival Director.
Can you join us?
What’s the time commitment?
About 25-30 hours across the year, plus the day of the festival itself. This allows for regular meetings throughout the year and then time for completing actions outside of that.
Meetings
Jan-March: monthly
April: biweekly
May: weekly
June-July: monthly
Aug-Dec: alternating months
What's involved?
Here’s a selection of some of the things we get up to:
Liaising with the council to make sure the festival has all the right permissions and is legally compliant (a lot of essential form filling)
Fundraising and grant applications
Booking suppliers (stage equipment, marquees etc)
Coordinating with our amazing team leaders (BBQ, Tea tent, Stage team, set up crew, Kids’ Field, raffle sellers, bric-a-brac, plants etc)
Making sure our volunteer crew is happy and supported
Co-chairing meetings
Advertising and marketing (social media, website)
Co-ordinating the raffle
Taking appropriate training like a basic caterers’ hygiene course (we’ll provide this)
Keeping everything running smoothly on the day
And generally being a font of enthusiasm and good ideas
